There are also free introductory FinOps courses and additional specialist training that don't result in a “FinOps Certified” credential.
This guide focuses only on training and certifications offered directly by the FinOps Foundation. It isn't intended to list every FinOps training provider or third-party course.

- Who it’s for: Anyone new to FinOps
- Overview: A free, self-paced introduction to FinOps and the FinOps Framework. It's a useful starting point if you want to understand the basic concepts before moving on to certification.

FinOps Certified: AI Value
- Who it’s for: FinOps practitioners and other professionals responsible for understanding, managing, and demonstrating value from AI spending
- Overview: Applies FinOps practices to AI. The course looks at the economics of AI services and infrastructure, how AI consumption can be measured, and how teams can connect AI spending to business value.
- Cost: $500
- FinOps Certified: AI Value ↗
FinOps Certified: Technology Value
- Who it’s for: FinOps practitioners and technology professionals managing costs and value across a broader technology estate, not just public cloud
- Overview: Technology Value extends FinOps beyond public cloud alone. To earn the certification, you first complete 5 training modules covering FinOps Scopes, Public Cloud, Data Center, SaaS & Licensing, and Data Cloud Platforms. Each module can also be completed independently and awards its own trained badge. Once you've earned all 5 module badges, you can take the Technology Value certification exam.

- Who it’s for: FinOps and engineering teams working with Kubernetes and containerized workloads
- Overview: Specialist FinOps training focused on understanding and managing the costs of containerized infrastructure.

FinOps Certified Professional
FinOps Certified Professional is the Foundation's advanced certification for experienced FinOps practitioners.
The route to Professional changed in 2026.
- Who it’s for: Experienced practitioners who want to demonstrate advanced practical knowledge, leadership, and contribution to the FinOps community.
- What you need before enrolling: You must be an active FinOps Certified Practitioner OR FinOps Certified Engineer.
- What you need before taking the exam: You must also hold be actively certified as a FOCUS Analyst, in AI Value, and in Technology Value. You can work toward these certifications while you're enrolled in the Professional program. They don't need to be completed before you enroll, but all 3 must be active before you can sit the Professional exam. You'll also need to complete a Professional Contribution, which is designed to demonstrate participation and leadership within the FinOps community. The resulting FinOps Certified Professional credential is valid for 2 years.

Practitioner or Engineer > FOCUS Analyst + AI Value + Technology Value > Professional
The intermediate certifications don't have to be completed in that exact order.
Which FinOps Certification Should You Take?
There's no single certification path that suits every role.
If you're new to FinOps, Introduction to FinOps is the easiest place to start. If you want a broadly applicable professional certification, FinOps Certified Practitioner is the natural next step.
Engineers may prefer FinOps Certified Engineer, while people who work heavily with billing and cost datasets may get more immediate value from FOCUS Analyst.
AI Value is relevant if AI consumption and investment are becoming part of your FinOps remit. Technology Value goes broader still, applying FinOps practices across public cloud, SaaS and licensing, data centers, and data cloud platforms.
For experienced practitioners aiming for the Foundation's highest-level individual credential, FinOps Certified Professional now brings those areas together.
Beyond Certifications - Community Programs
The FinOps Foundation also runs programs to help people access and grow within the FinOps community:
Scholarship Program
Training costs can add up, particularly if you're following the full Professional certification path.
The FinOps Foundation Scholarship Program is designed to make FinOps training and certification accessible to people who don't have the financial means to pursue it themselves.
The Foundation says that, since 2023, it has awarded more than $1.6 million in scholarships to over 2,200 students across 80 countries.
Mentorship Program
The Foundation also runs a mentorship program that connects FinOps community members with experienced practitioners.
Mentors need leadership experience and a FinOps certification. Mentees should already be working in FinOps and hold a relevant certification.
The program asks both mentors and mentees to commit for 6 months, with at least 60 minutes of mentoring each month.
Final Thoughts
The FinOps Foundation training catalog has expanded considerably since its introduction.
What started primarily around public cloud financial management now includes specialist certification in FOCUS, AI value, and the management of technology value across SaaS, data centers, data platforms, and public cloud.
That also makes choosing a FinOps course slightly less linear than it used to be. Start with the certification that matches the work you actually do, then build outward as your FinOps responsibilities expand.
And remember that certification gives you the framework and shared language. Applying FinOps day to day still means connecting cost data to the resources, teams, architecture, ownership, and operational decisions behind it.
